11/8/2025 - PyNori v2.2.0

Hey all, Shirley here. That's right, I'm still alive, believe it or not! Finally, the next PyNori update is here after almost 2 months. Well, that's a new best for the longest I've gone without releasing an update.

As usual, let's get into what's new before talking about the bugfixes.

1 (the focus of this update): You can now NATIVELY use multiple Save Files instead of having to swap out different copies of Pinori.ini, Runs.ini, etc. I'm not too confident that the multi-save system is bug-free in its current state, so I expect to have to release a few bugfix updates. I'm hoping for the best case scenario, though (2.2.1 and maybe 2.2.2 at most). To see how to create custom paths, run the game and then open SavePaths.ini. The "default" and "last used" Save Paths should be formatted exactly how your OS expects it (so for Linux, something like "/home/Username/Desktop/PyNori", and for Windows, something like "C:\Users\Username\Desktop\PyNori"). For organisation's sake (and to avoid the game potentially crashing), I would recommend keeping your Save Files inside the PyNori folder. I doubt the game will crash if you try to create a Save Path outside of the game's directory, but you never know. I personally haven't tried this, but I see no reason to because that's just messy. So for your (and my own) sake, PLEASE keep your Save Files INSIDE the PyNori folder.

2: For the first time in a long time, there's now a new item: the Pocket Shop! This item allows you to open a shop from anywhere EXCEPT the final boss! Since shops are just a TAD too uncommon (totally not a rarity or anything), I feel like this item will help balance things out. And yes, you can buy Pocket Shops in a Pocket Shop. Infinite shop glitch! Well... "infinite" if you can keep your balance high enough. Pocket Shops cost 100 Sines, so...

3: On the topic of item stuff, the Foreign Stimulant now does something new if the RNG allows for it: It can now make the Focused Character lightheaded! When the Focused Character is lightheaded, menus become unreadable. Letters get scrambled, hell, even the escape sequences that colour the text break and become part of the gibberish.

4: There are now time-sensitive secrets hidden in the game! Item drops, battle bonuses, and other little secrets can be found if you're playing the game at the right time. The secrets update every hour (on the dot, not based on a timer), so if you're lucky, you could THEORETICALLY encounter multiple secrets in one session. But... you'd probably have to play for several hours for that to happen... so if you're trying to "secret hunt", break your sessions up into 1-2 hour pieces.

5: There's now a "news system" for Daily Challenges! New generations, verifications, and difficulty markings will be reported both at the top of the Daily Challenge main menu and in a newly added "news viewer". The news viewer will allow you to read past reports 1 month at a time.

6: The game now runs a "victory check" on startup, which checks your Runs.ini. If you have NO saved runs, yet VICTOR.Y is present, you'll get called out for cheating.

7: There's now a sound effect that plays when important questions come up. The sound effect is appropriately named "important".

8: If you make it to the end of the "walking simulator" portion of the game without beating Shadorako in Archlekia, the cutscene that plays before the final battle will differ slightly.

9: The "hit ranks" from the final battle are slowly but surely being implemented into the main battle system! They're NOT in the boss battles yet, but I'm working on that.

10: As if there weren't enough already, there are 2 more game over sounds! Good luck trying to trigger them!

11: The Omnicide version of the Team Member Get sound has been updated. The new version is a close replica of the original but in minor key (and without any Namco 163 channels). The old version can now only be heard if OG SFX is active.

12: A new minigame has been added: "Duordle"! It's the same as the Wordle minigame, but you're solving 2 words at the same time. Both Wordles must be solved in order to win! If you only guess one or the other (or don't guess either one), you lose!

I believe that's about it for new features. Now onto the bugfixes!

1: You can no longer prematurely end the Krystal O'Shin fight by spamming Spare until it works. (Doing so wouldn't have marked the fight as cleared though.)

2: You can no longer trigger the Bad Code Song by typing a string in the inventory menu.

3: Various grammatical fixes have been made (for example, small errors in Krystal's dialogue)

4: Not really a fix, but Megan Bite has been nerfed. ATK 20 -> 15

5: Giving Galaxette 500 HP in phase 4 of Shadorako's battle (on Impossible Mode) no longer does nothing.

6: Not really a bug, but promoting or demoting with the Randomiser quirk active will no longer trigger the Shadorako cutscene if the game says selecting 7 will end your journey.

7: You can no longer try to sell the Ring or Unused Ring.

8: When doing a Traditional run after an Omnicide run, Shadorako will no longer accuse you of cheating because the "hard" key in Pinori.ini was not reset. I don't know how, but this has been an issue since v1.6.0. Better late than never, I guess.

9: When razzing Tin Can't, the dialogue that follows no longer assumes the Focused Character is Pinori.

10: The crit variant of an attack sound will no longer play when an attack misses.

11: If PyNori gets rate limited by both ipinfo.io AND ipapi.co, the game will now access ipwho.is instead, so Weather Events can function for even longer. Let's hope I won't have to add a THIRD failsafe!

12: Again, not a bug, but Kame Dee is now in the NPC enemy pools for Kiku Village and Dyarix.

13: When loading a past Daily Challenge, you no longer have to put daily- at the start of your input. Only the month, day, and year are required! (Yes, in that order. Cope harder.)

14: In the mirror room of Shadorako's Lair, the "correct direction" variable now only updates after a successful guess, not just every single one.

That's about it for this update. Again, I expect to need to release a bugfix update or two, as I'm almost certain this update isn't perfect, but that's okay. See you next time for v2.2.1 or v2.3.0! Hopefully I won't take another 2 months.
