1/22/2024 - Quirk Update

Hello, Sana/Shirley here. Note before I get into the details,

this update does not impact the tech demo.

Anyway, the quirk system is receiving a lot of new content.

Firstly, the "Glass Soul" quirk has been removed. The "Glass Soul" quirk locked your HP and Max HP to 1, meaning that if you took damage at all in battle, you'd die. This is entirely pointless as you're bound to take damage eventually. This isn't like Undertale where you can just no-hit battles and walk off without a scratch; whether or not you take damage is determined by your stats, which, for a while at least, you WILL be vulnerable until you level up. Until then, the odds of one-shotting an enemy are extremely low, so this quirk would ultimately make the "kill everything" route excruciatingly painful (literally). You'd have to somehow find an enemy that can't deal damage to you, which, once I work out the kinks in the code, should be next to impossible. So, if any of you masochists out there want to code the Glass Soul quirk back in, good luck making any progress at all.

As for the new content, here's a good old list:

"Birds of a Feather" - This quirk makes fleeing battles almost impossible. If you like when RNG is hard on you, this quirk should be right up your alley.
"Always Stick Together" - This quirk makes fleeing battles actually impossible. Useful for if you're trying to pull off the "kill everything" route but you're extremely forgetful. Goes well with the "Merciless" quirk, which disallows sparing.
"All for me and all for free" - This quirk makes items free in shops. That's literally it. 100% off on everything.
"One Slot Challenge" - This quirk makes the game only utilise slot 1 of your inventory. If slot 1 is holding an item, your inventory is full. This is sort-of a reference to that one Minecraft April Fools update where they reduced the inventory to 1 slot.
"Money is all you need" - This quirk turns every non-battle turn into a shop turn. If you don't want to enter a shop, you'll have to say "no" every time. Good luck not losing your mind.
"Randomiser" - This quirk changes how you progress in the game. Instead of your adventure being linear, it's randomised, meaning you could jump from Kiku Village straight to the end of the game (or vice versa) once you walk far enough to "Continue Mission". Obviously not the END end, this only applies to the "you're in [area], you've taken [x] steps so far" part of the game.

Hopefully this sparks a little more interest. I'll work on implementing these once I get shops working properly. After all that, I'll finally demo the "overworld" system, since that's long overdue. Anyway, until then.
