2/28/2025 - PyNori v1.4.0
Hey all, you know what time it is, it's time for another minor PyNori update!
This update adds a little more interesting functionality to the overworld and battle systems. As for what I added to the overworld system, I'm going to let you figure that out on your own. As for the battle system, I've made it so certain enemies have "populations", so when you kill them off, you'll never encounter them again. I've also made enemies slightly easier to run from when they're low on HP. That's... pretty much it, actually, but hey, you still have the Invulnerable and Megalopolis quirks to mess around with! They were added in previous updates, yes, but they're still options, just like the rest of the quirks. You should check them out if you haven't already!
Third-to-last, I've added a mechanic to the save option that attempts to prevent your Save Data from getting erased entirely when trying to save with extremely low disk space. Hopefully you should never come across said mechanic, I hope to God you have at least 25 megabytes free on the drive you're using to play PyNori (if you're playing it at all, that is), but if (for whatever reason) your storage is so low that the game can't even write 2 kilobytes worth of data to an ini file, that feature will try its hardest to keep your progress safe until space has been freed up. It's NOT perfect, so if you still lose your data despite my attempt at a failsafe, I'm sorry.
Second-to-last, another bug with the unsaved progress prompt has been patched: Using Vocal Points, exiting the game without saving, starting the game again, and attempting to exit the game again will no longer trigger the unsaved progress prompt.
Lastly, the pause() code is now (more) publicly available via PyPI! If you want to use it in your projects, install a package called "pypause" and import it by typing "from pypause import pause". To pause your script, just type pause(). Don't worry, the anti-Linux code is NOT included!
I'd say "that's all, see you for the v1.5.0 update", but that's actually not all; tomorrow (March 1st) at noon, I'll be holding the first PyNori Feature Vote on StrawPoll (since Twitter doesn't allow polls to be scheduled for some odd reason). If you want to vote, check the PyNori Twitter account here and look out for a StrawPoll link. Voting ends next Saturday (March 8th).
P.S. The data for the Enemy Population mechanic is saved to a separate ini, not Pinori.ini, so no need to worry about Save Data incompatibility, as long as you're not updating from v1.0.2 or v1.2.0.
